20&21 September : Special Workshop: Introduction to Natural Dyeing and Tannin Painting Two Day Workshop
Two-Day Collaborative Workshop with Laura Castro
We’re excited to welcome Colombian natural dyer Laura Castro to our Athens studio for a very special two-day workshop series exploring colour, intuition, and tradition through textiles. Join us for one or both days to immerse yourself in the world of natural dyes and creative textile practices.
🌿 Day 1: Introduction to Natural Dyeing
Saturday, 20 September — 11:00–14:00
Location: Parren 3, Kallirois, Athens
Class size: Maximum 8 students
Discover the beauty of plant-based colour in this hands-on workshop. Together, we will unlock the colours hidden in everyday botanicals and transform them into vibrant, lasting hues on natural fibres.
What you’ll learn:
Introduction to natural dyes and their history
How to prepare and apply dyes step-by-step
The role of mordants in colour outcomes
Which fibres (linen, silk, cotton, wool) work best with plant-based dyes
What you’ll create:
Using madder root, avocado stones & skins, onion skins, and acorn cupules, you’ll produce 8 unique colours across a variety of fabrics.
You’ll leave with a botanical dye swatch book—a personal reference of your colours and fabrics to inspire your future projects.
🎨 Day 2: Tannin Painting & Bojagi
Sunday, 21 September — 11:00–15:00
Location: Parren 3, Kallirois, Athens
Class size: Maximum 8 students
This session is about intuition, mark-making, and storytelling through textiles. You’ll explore the expressive possibilities of tannins—plant-based compounds that create natural inks—alongside bojagi, the traditional Korean textile art of piecing fabrics together as a symbol of luck and protection.
What you’ll learn:
How to recognise and extract tannins
Working with tannin reagents and mark-making techniques
Creating natural inks for expressive painting
Introduction to Korean Bojagi sewing
What you’ll create:
Your own one-of-a-kind textile artwork on cotton, blending painting and stitching. You’ll also receive a digital PDF guide to continue experimenting at home.
✨ Both workshops are open to beginners—no prior experience is needed.
✨ Taught in English.
✨ All materials are provided (please bring a notebook for your notes and ideas).
