"Ocean Deep" Hand-Woven Indigo Ikat Cotton Runner

A hand-woven textile runner created using naturally dyed indigo cotton yarns and the traditional ikat dyeing technique.

The warp is made from un-dyed cotton yarns, while the weft yarns are naturally dyed with indigo before weaving. Through the ikat process, the yarns are resist-dyed prior to weaving, creating the soft, rhythmic pattern visible across the textile.

The runner is hand-woven by Christiana on a floor loom in our Athens studio and finished with carefully hand-stitched edges.

Its long format allows the textile to be used in multiple ways — as a table runner or as a decorative bed runner for a double bed, bringing natural texture and depth to interior spaces.

Natural Dyeing

Botanical dyeing is a slow process, that can be unpredictable and there are often pleasant colour surprises. It takes several hours to extract the natural pigment from plants, sometimes even days!

 

Weaving

Christiana started weaving in university, but really felt in love with weaving while travelling in Asia. One of her favourite techniques is ikat. In the studio Christiana uses her big floor loom to weave items for the home such as table and bed runners, pillows, placemats as well as custom orders for rugs, blankets and throws.
