"Carrie" Handwoven Naturally Dyed Cotton Cushion

This handwoven cotton cushion is a unique textile piece created on the floor loom in our Athens studio.

The fabric was woven by Christiana using undyed cotton yarns for both warp and weft, combined with cotton yarns that were naturally dyed with avocado stones, madder roots, and cutch. The central textured stripe is woven with thicker naturally dyed yarns, creating a tactile surface that highlights the beauty of handmade textiles.

After weaving, the cushion cover was carefully machine sewn by Violeta in our Athens studio and finished with a practical envelope closure.

Natural Dyeing

Botanical dyeing is a slow process, that can be unpredictable and there are often pleasant colour surprises. It takes several hours to extract the natural pigment from plants, sometimes even days!

 

Weaving

Christiana started weaving in university, but really felt in love with weaving while travelling in Asia. One of her favourite techniques is ikat. In the studio Christiana uses her big floor loom to weave items for the home such as table and bed runners, pillows, placemats as well as custom orders for rugs, blankets and throws.
