Idiom Architects x Christiana Vardakou for Dioni Jewels, Kolonaki

This project was developed in collaboration with Idiom Architects for Dioni, a jewellery space where material, light, and atmosphere are carefully composed.

A series of cotton gauze curtains were naturally dyed using cutch and madder root, creating a soft ombre transition from warm, earthy tones into translucent light. The gradient moves gently across the fabric, allowing the colour to dissolve rather than define—like a horizon line that is felt rather than seen.

The choice of natural dyes was intentional: cutch bringing depth and grounding through rich browns, and madder introducing warmth through soft terracotta and blush tones. Together, they create a palette that resonates with the materials of the space and enhances the jewellery without competing with it.

The curtains function not only as a visual element, but as an atmospheric filter. They diffuse the strong Athenian light, soften the interior, and create a sense of intimacy within the storefront. From the outside, they act as a subtle veil—inviting, yet not fully revealing.

Working closely with the architectural vision, the textiles became part of the spatial language of the shop. They introduce movement, softness, and a temporal quality—shifting throughout the day as light passes through them.

This project reflects an ongoing dialogue between textiles and architecture, where fabric is not decorative, but integral—shaping how a space is experienced.
